Polemarch Welcome Message

On behalf of the Norristown (PA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., I welcome you to our Website. Our Chapter, chartered on January 26, 1986, serves both the Norristown and West Chester communities through its on-going  programs that provide support and services to youth and families. Our Guide Right Program mentors male youth from all walks of life; our Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to numerous college students; and our Social Action Program meets community needs though collaboration with other service organizations. Our annual activities include providing holiday food baskets; participating in community clothing drives; donating toys to disadvantaged youth; contributing to scholarship programs at places of worship; and volunteering in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

As we embark on our 32nd year of dedicated community service, the Norristown Alumni Chapter will further expand its outreach in the Norristown and West Chester neighborhoods through effective collaboration with other organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Young Men and Women In Charge (YMWIC), Help A Single Parent Foundation and other like-minded service organizations. We are also in the process of renovating a house for our foundation, the Norristown Community Development Corporation (NCDC), which will be used to better serve the neighborhoods within the borough.

We hope you enjoy this site and if you have any questions please contact us. Thank you!

Regards,
Michael Deshield

Making a Difference in the Norristown Community

01aThe Norristown (PA) Alumni Chapter took the opportunity to serve during the start of the Holiday season. On Saturday, November 18th we began by delivering food baskets throughout the community to help families enjoy a hearty meal with loved ones for Thanksgiving. We would like to thank Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, PA, Norristown OIC and Help A Single Parent Foundation for their help with this effort. In addition, the Norristown Nupes assisted the Valley Forge Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with their annual Love Exchange at Gotwals Elementary School where families were able to obtain needful items, including clothing to help the "ends meet a little easier."

02On the evening of November 18th, we had our annual Harvest Kabaret to raise money for the renovation of our house to better serve the Norristown community. The event was held at St. Raymond's event hall and featured the DJ skills of DJ Touchtone. Hundreds of people enjoyed a night of great food, music, and dancing. We work hard and then play hard.

On Sunday, November 19th, the Norristown Kappas partnered with the American Legion of Norristown to facilitate the "Feed the Hungry" program where families arrived and were served hot meals that included chicken, ham, turkey, and all the trimmings of a hearty Thanksgiving meal. After the feast, the attendees enjoyed dancing away the calories to complete their experience. Excellent job to W. Douglas Banks (Social Action Chair) and Michael Gibson (co-Chair) for their planning, pick up and execution of the events. "If we do not look out for our own community, who will?", Gary Simpson, Vice-Polemarch of the Norristown (PA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Kappa League Program

Kappa League

A component of Guide Right is the “Kappa League.” Kappa League, originally founded as the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, has been around for over thirty-years. It was created as a social action project in 1970, by Brother Mel Davis, then of the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. Kappa League continues to embody all of the elements of Guide Right as proposed with a specific focus on young high school males. It continues to provide focused opportunities to assist young men to grow and become productive citizens within society.

Social Action Program

Social Action 1

The goal of the Norristown Alumni Social Action Committee is to make a difference in the lives of the people that live in the Norristown area. When we partner with Mt. Zion AME Church to help make their winter coat drive a success, we gain the satisfaction of knowing that there will be children with new coats to keep them warm thru the winter.
